NCTE HEADQUARTERS

The NCTE headquarters is located at Hans Bhawan, Wing-II, 1, Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, New Delhi- 110002. It is headed by the Chairperson, NCTE. He is assisted by the Vice-Chairperson, the Member-Secretary and various other officers to look after academic, regulatory and administrative matters. The headquarters is mainly responsible for laying down policy guidelines, norms and standards for various teacher education programmes, conducting and promoting research and innovations in teacher education and performing various other academic functions as envisaged in section 12 of the NCTE Act and consideration of appeals under section 18 of the NCTE Act.

THE COUNCIL
The National Council for Teacher Education, commonly known as the Council or the General Body of the NCTE, is constituted by the Government of India under Section 3 of the NCTE Act. It is the highest decision-making body of the NCTE. It lays down policy, frames regulations and takes final decisions on various aspects of the mandate given to it under the NCTE Act.

The NCTE Act vide Section 19(1) provides for constitution of the Executive Committee for discharging such functions as may be assigned to it by the Council or as may be determined by regulations. The General Body of the NCTE in its first meeting held on November 3,1995 decided that the Executive Committee may generally carry out the functions of the Council and may have the control over management of all the affairs and the funds of the Council. It further decided that the Executive Committee may have the authority to exercise all the powers of the Council except framing of the regulations.
