FOUNDATION DAY FUNCTION OF NCTE

The 15th
Foundation Day function of the NCTE was held at the India
International Centre, New Delhi on 17th August,
2010. The Hon’ble Minister of Human Resource Development, Shri
Kapil Sibal, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The
Hon’ble Minister of State for Human Resource Development, Smt.
D. Purandeswari, was the Guest of Honour and Smt. Anshu Vaish,
Secretary to the Govt. of India, Ministry of HRD (Deptt. of
School Education & Literacy) was the Special Guest in the
function. Prof. M. Anandakrishnan, Chairman, Board of
Governors, IIT, Kanpur presided over the function. Prof.
Anandakrishnan also delivered the Foundation Day lecture on the
theme “Higher Education: Reforms and Resistance”. The Hon’ble
Human Resource Minister congratulated the staff of the NCTE on
its foundation day and appreciated the initiatives taken by the
Council in improving its working. He also advised NCTE to take
further steps to reform the teacher education system in the
country. The Hon’ble Minister of State for HRD in her speech
emphasized the need for improving the quality of teacher
preparation. Smt. Anshu Vaish stressed the need for greater
interaction of NCTE with the stakeholders. While the guests
were welcomed by the Vice Chairperson, NCTE, an overview of the
initiatives taken by the NCTE during the last one year was
presented by the Chairperson, NCTE. The speeches of the Hon’ble
Human Resource Minister; Chairperson, NCTE and Prof. M.
Anandakrishnan are available on the NCTE’s website. On this
occasion, distinguished teacher educator, Prof. G.L. Arora was
awarded the Distinguished Teacher Educator Award by the Hon’ble
HRM. Around 300 teacher educators from teacher education
institutions in and around Delhi, several educationists,
officials from the Ministry, Heads of other apex bodies and
media persons attended the function.
